A man in last light on the coast. Warmth only in the skin.

Living film · Cannon Beach

We did not need a mask. We needed a cream that could stand in the last light.

Living film

A film that is still a skin.

Living film is what the cream becomes once the water is gone. Not a mask. Not a coat of color. A lattice of ceramide, cholesterol, and fatty acid, thinner than one cell of the surface, with the oxide still inside it.

Blood can still move the face. Water can still leave. The beard is not painted shut. If the light changes and the color does not, the film failed.

Prime is that same lattice with nothing in it to oxidize. That is why Veil locks. Clean is how the film leaves: forty-five to sixty seconds, then the face is only itself. If it needs a strip, it was paint.

One film cannot be thin enough for the blood and dense enough for the blue in a beard. So the line splits. Veil for the face. Cover Spot and Beard Shadow for the jaw. The pencil is the only piece outside the lattice.

Origin

Built for a face that already has weather in it.

We start with the darkest sitting, and the last hour on the Pacific. Not a studio. Not a beige that was mixed for someone else and darkened later.

The cream is thin. The beard stays. Color lives in the skin, not on the oil.

Lookbook

Four lights. One face.

The house keeps

Four rules. No ice. No costume. No scavenger hunt.

  1. 01

    The hour, not the bulb

Last coastal light. If it dies under a ring light, it does not ship.

  2. 02

    No mask

Thin enough that the skin stays a skin. Pores stay. The beard stays.

  3. 03

    No ice

Shine like health. Never a stripe of highlight.

  4. 04

The first tin. Sixteen depths. Two fingers. Nothing in it should read as a costume.

The beard

The follicle is not a problem.

Beard Shadow takes the blue out of the jaw. Cover Spot is the drier hold, only on the spot that asks. The rest of the face stays Veil.

Open Beard Shadow
A jaw in honeyed light, short stubble.

Night

Prime. Set. Clean.

Three lotions. One gesture. Without them, Veil is a color sitting on oil. At the end of the day, Clean. Forty-five seconds. The face is only itself.

Asked

What is living film?
The dry lattice the cream becomes. Thin enough for blood and for water. Prime is the lattice with no color. Clean is how it leaves. If a stranger can see the edge, it is not living.
Does it cover a beard?
It is made for one. The follicle is not a flaw to paint out. Cover Spot is the drier hold, only where the blue asks.
Is this makeup?
It is color in the skin. If a stranger can name the product on your face, it failed.
Where is the shade?
In the tin. Sixteen depths for Veil. The lid does not carry a chip.

Sit in the last light. Leave with a tin.
